Trek Airways
A chance, old connections and some persuasion have resulted in a very lucky me becoming the new caretaker of the remaining bulk of the Trek Airways documentation and related effects.
In time to come I will be posting a few photos of the fascinating remaining documentation, photos and artifacts in my possession as time and resources permit. These pieces are not currently in a public museum.
As with my other interests, I am of course always after more items to add to the collection and am thus putting out my call for any Trek items you may wish to pass on. If it’s related or has the logo, consider me interested.
Check back regularly for updates.
In the meantime, see the slideshows below for all of the currently loaded items with accompanying information.
Visit the FaceBook Page for communal discussion and more photos.
As fate would have it, and nearly two decades after the final remains of Trek were put to rest, two Trek websites, with the same agenda, happened to go live within minutes of one another — and unbeknownst to either ‘site owner.
John Austin-Williams is a long-time wing nut and a big Trek fan. John’s a far more knowledgeable chap than I on this subject, so I encourage you to visit his online dedication to Trek Airways — www.trekairways.co.za — to get the story of the airline, its aircraft and its eventual demise.
Dear Nic,
An old friend of mine is looking for a copy of “Sky Trek”. He use to have one
but he lent it out and never got it back. He used to work for Trek at Rand in the 50’s.
His name is Mike Magee.
I have a scanner that you could use for a while, so that you can scan your photo’s and perhaps even the entire book.
Please let me know, you can contact me, David Smith, at 011 3153134 office
or at 011 8222719 home.
Hi David,
Thanks for dropping a line.
The ‘museum’ pages on this ‘site have been on my To Do list for some time now, but as per usual, life’s crises and money to survive have taken priority.
It’s still on the list though. ;]
I am in the same boat as your friend. Although I was extremely lucky to find a copy of this book, I am now looking for a second one — for Robin Anderson, co-pilot on the ill-faited ’60 DC-4 crash over Assiout in Egypt.
Thank you for the very kind offer of a scanner loan. I will be in touch both for that and to see if I/we (assorted Trek nutters) could meet with/chat with Mike.
I do not think I will have the excess time to scan the lot in one go anytime in the very near future, but let’s see how it goes. =]
Kind regards,
Nic
